My husband and I became supporters of the The Resource Connection Food Bank after a friend told us of his involvement.  As we learned more about all of the programs under the umbrella of The Resource Connection, it became clear that my 25+ year career in the nonprofit world may present an opportunity for those skills to be utilized in our county.  While the Food Bank was our original point of contact, the programs of this agency provide critically needed resources to those who need “a hand up, not a hand out”.   I am proud to be associated with this agency that supports the most vulnerable in our community.

The mission of The Resource Connection of Calaveras and Amador is to: Engage Families, Empower Individuals, and Enrich Communities.  It was a meaningful choice for me to serve as a member of the Governing Board because the mission is in total alignment with my own personal values. The years I have spent in education and community involvement have nurtured and reinforced these values. I have continued to serve for thirteen years on the Board because I have observed that the whole organization is devoted to engaging families, empowering individuals and enriching our communities.

It was clear at the outset of my association with The Resource Connection just how dedicated and passionate the staff and Board of Directors are in carrying out the mission of the organization.  I first became aware of The Resource Connection through my work, first as a volunteer attorney, and then through my probate law practice in San Andreas.  My background and experience prior to my legal career was with the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office where I was a correctional officer, holding a variety of positions over the years.  My last few years with the agency were in administration, managing fiscal and personnel operations.  During my career with the Santa Cruz Sheriff’s Office and throughout my legal career, as well as myself volunteering, I have had many opportunities to work with various non-profit organizations.  I enjoy traveling, hiking, biking, and gardening. I serve as your requisite attorney on The Resource Connection Board of Directors.

The Resource Connection is a valuable organization to our community, it provides support to those in vulnerable positions and gives them an opportunity to rise above their challenges to a better future. I became involved with The Resource Connection during the lowest point of my life. The caring staff helped me when I needed it the most, with a smile and encouragement that meant as much as the help they provided. I would be in a much different place without them. Now it’s my turn to give back, to empower families, and to serve others with compassion and respect.

After 45 exciting and successful years producing documentary and travel-oriented films and another 20 years managing the Calaveras County TV Station, I decided to retire in October 2021.  But I wanted to continue a productive life.  After learning about the Resource Connection and the many wonderful services they provide to the community, I wanted to volunteer my experiences to support the Resource Connection Board of Directors.
